Amazon plans to launch its own browser to compete with giants

Amazon may launch its own browser to compete with Google Chrome, as the company recently sent out a questionnaire that was designed to help Amazon better understand what factors would entice users to download and try a new browser. While this doesn’t necessarily mean Amazon will launch a browser, it does at least mean the company has that in mind.

In the questionnaire, Amazon made it clear that by completing the questionnaire, users would help create innovations that could potentially improve the web browsing experience for millions of people.

Amazon is already the largest online retailer in the US, with a successful production company and its own streaming service. But Amazon is also a player in the advertising business, which is more lucrative for the company than Prime.

Amazon’s last attempt at building a browser was in 2011 when the company launched Silk. While it’s technically a browser, it’s very limited in functionality and is meant to complement the company’s other products.

And this time, Amazon seems to be building a real browser, which can be inferred from the questionnaire itself, which involves the following aspects:

Synchronize

privacy

shopping options

voice change

extension

Block third-party trackers

Most of the list is the bare minimum that modern users can expect from a browser. The last point is very unique, usually, browsers do not provide such a built-in function, so this may be a strong selling point for a new browser.

The survey described the software as a desktop/laptop experience, but also mentioned mobile integration. Mobile browsers are far more influential today, not just because of ease of use, but also from a monetization standpoint.
