Amazon announces it will discontinue Kindle Newsstand service on Sept. 4

Amazon today announced that it will discontinue its Kindle Newsstand service on September 4, 2023. The service mainly sells Kindle content such as popular magazines in print and offers newspaper subscriptions.

The announcement on Amazon’s website is as follows: “Amazon will no longer sell print, Kindle magazine and newspaper subscriptions as of March 9, 2023. Amazon is no longer accepting new Kindle Newsstand subscriptions, does not support print magazine subscriptions, and existing users will not automatically renew their subscriptions.

Current subscribers to the Kindle Newsstand service will continue to receive new magazines and newspapers until September 4.

As the company moves forward with its annual operating plan review, it remains focused on each of our businesses and is actively adjusting to market conditions,” Amazon said. After evaluating our magazine and newspaper subscriptions and single issue sales, we made the difficult decision to discontinue these services.”
