AirPods Pro 2 Personalized Spatial Audio and Find My features delayed until October

Apple has revealed that two key selling features of Apple’s new AirPods 2 Pro true wireless noise-canceling earbuds will not be available when first-time customers get their hands on them on Friday, Sept. 23. According to a footnote in Apple’s AirPods Pro 2 press release, “Personalized Spatial Audio Profiles and Find My will be available in October along with iPadOS 16 and macOS Ventura.”

Given that Apple requires AirPods Pro 2 to be paired with Apple devices running the latest operating system, a footnote in Apple’s press release indicates that neither feature will work with iOS 16, the latest version of which will be officially released on Monday, September 12.

Presumably, this means AirPods Pro 2 owners will have to wait until the release of iOS 16.1 to use both features. iOS 16.1 is currently in developer beta, so the first point release of iOS 16 could come in October alongside the release of iPadOS 16 and macOS Ventura.

With Personalized Spatial Audio, users can customize their own optimized sound to fit the size and shape of their heads and ears. With the TrueDepth camera on the iPhone, users will be able to create a personal profile for Spatial Audio, providing a listening experience that is tuned just for them.

As for Find My, the new AirPods Pro 2 has an updated charging case with Find My’s new speakers, which can be found through the Find My app.
