The market research organization TechInsights today released the “Smartphone Trends in 2024” report and proposed that according to data from the TechInsights Wireless Smartphone Strategy (WSS) channel, the global smartphone market will return to low single digits in 2024. number growth.
The report analyzes that the relative relaxation of the global macroeconomic situation will also promote the growth of the smartphone industry, and this growth will be driven by emerging markets that have not yet been saturated.
At the same time, the report pointed out that Huawei may become a “surprise in 2024”: Since Huawei can successfully launch 5G chipsets in China, Huawei may also become a “big surprise” in overseas markets this year. Huawei is expected to achieve strong double-digit growth this year, according to the agency’s forecasts of smartphone shipments in various regions around the world.
Generative AI is also expected to become the “center stage” of smartphones this year, and mobile phones will also have brighter screens and larger RAM: the peak brightness of smartphone displays is expected to reach or exceed 4,500 nits in 2024; RAM will be over 20GB.
The report also noted that more smartphone manufacturers are expected to offer satellite connectivity this year, but satellite connectivity has its own challenges, making it difficult to expand in other countries and incurring significant additional costs.
Additionally, curved screens will no longer be popular due to issues such as accidental touches and high maintenance and repair costs.
Will consumers in the mid- to high-price segment be willing to pay extra to maintain curved screens? It seems unlikely.
TechInsights also predicts there will be no “significant” smartphone innovations from Apple this year.
According to previous reports, TechInsights said in another forecast report published earlier this month that Huawei HarmonyOS will replace Apple iOS to become China’s second largest smartphone operating system in 2024. “Global smartphone sales will rebound +3% year-on-year in 2024. Android and Apple iOS will continue to remain the dominant duo globally, but will lose share in the Chinese market to Huawei’s Harmony OS.”
