After Cyberpunk: Edgewalker, CD Projekt Plans More Transmedia Projects

In recent years, game adaptation animations have suddenly become popular, such as “League of Legends: Battle of Two Cities”, “Cyberpunk: Edge Walker”, “Pantheon”, “Original God”, “Tomorrow’s Ark: Prelude to Dawn, etc. Among them, “Cyberpunk 2077” has attracted countless new players and returning old players with this derivative animation, occupying the Steam weekly sales list for several weeks.

During the third-quarter earnings call, CD Projekt was asked if it planned to develop a second season for Netflix’s Cyberpunk: Edgewalker.

“We haven’t confirmed any specific plans or any special projects for the second season of Edgewalker,” said Michalovy Nowakowski, CD Projekt’s senior vice president of business development.

He then added: “However, we intend to do more things in the cross-media area, such as linear visual (linear visual) animation or live-action film areas, those plans have not changed, so when we are ready, You may see until we have more news on this.”

CD Projekt said on Monday that strong sales of “Cyberpunk 2077” drove the company’s third-quarter financial results to a record high.

The open world RPG game ushered in a peak in September, which coincided with the release of the 1.6 patch, plus Steam opened half-price, and just as soon as “Cyberpunk: Edge Walker” was released. Hot all over the Internet.

According to Piotr Nielubowicz, chief financial officer at CD Projekt, Edgewalker ranks among the top 10 on Netflix in 19 countries, “The popularity of the animation, and the response to positive updates clearly influenced the popularity of Cyberpunk. Sales.”

It is worth mentioning that Satoru Honma, CD Projekt Red’s Japan country manager, recently stated that they have no plans to continue to create “Cyberpunk: Edgewalker”, and Studio Trigger has no such idea.

“Personally, I would like to continue working with Japanese studios to make more anime in the future, partly because of the really good feedback we’ve received,” he previously told Famitsu.

“However, to be clear, Cyberpunk: Edgerunner is a stand-alone work, so there’s no such thing as ‘we’re actually secretly doing season 2’. Even if we do more animation in the future, I don’t know if it’s season 2 or something completely different.”
