The Hurun Research Institute has released the 2023 Global Unicorn List, which shows that the number of unicorns worldwide has reached 1,361, an increase of 303 (29%) over a year ago, with the US accounting for 49% (666) of the total number of unicorns worldwide; China is in second place with 316, an increase of 50% over the pre-epidemic period; India stays in third place with 68 unicorns.
Bytespring remains the world’s most valuable unicorn at RMB 1.38 trillion; Musk’s SpaceX is second with a value of RMB 945 billion, up RMB 260 billion from a year ago; Ant Group drops one place to third with a value of RMB 830 billion; ChatGPT company OpenAI is one of the world’s best-performing unicorns over the past year, with a seven-fold increase in value to OpenAI was one of the world’s top performing unicorns over the past year, growing sevenfold in value to RMB 138 billion and rising from 272nd to 17th place globally.
In terms of the number of unicorns, the FinTech sector grew the fastest, with 32 more than a year ago, while Enterprise Services increased by 27, and Blockchain and Logistics each added 23. Overall, FinTech leads the way with 171 unicorns, followed by Software Services with 136 and E-Commerce with 120. This is followed by 105 in artificial intelligence, 92 in health technology, 62 in cybersecurity and 53 in the blockchain.
