1usmus plans to bring AMD Radeon Monster Profile performance tuning tool

The media is reporting that CTR and Hydra developer Yuri Bubily (aka 1usmus) is building a new hardware optimization utility. The difference is that this time he is focusing more on GPU rather than CPU performance tuning. The tool is said to be called “Radeon Monster Profile” (RMP) and is designed to improve GPU performance while keeping power consumption low.

The Radeon Monster Profile is scheduled to be released this fall. In addition, while initially only available for AMD RDNA 2 GPUs, yuri Bubily will add support for RDNA 3 GPUs as well.

Yuri says — RMP combines unique settings to optimize the performance and power consumption of AMD Radeon GPUs using a new voltage/frequency profile to maximize their potential.

Interestingly, while the GPU is the main component of the card, RMP is particularly focused on the performance of the memory subsystem — reducing power and heat in the GDDR6 memory module by lowering the voltage by 6%.

Specifically, the Radeon Monster Profile further boosts performance by increasing the requested core (GPU) frequency relative to the operating voltage.

The RX 6800 XT graphics card, for example, is capable of achieving a frequency increase of up to +300 MHz (+13% over the default) compared to standard operation.

With approximate power consumption, consumers saw a 21% increase in frame-rate performance per dollar — something that we were particularly impressed with.

In addition, the Radeon Monster Profile will provide several generic and adaptive profiles without the need to modify factory-set parameters stored in the GPU BIOS – such as temperature walls/fan speeds, or increasing voltages/changing current limits.

It is important to note that before applying RMP “chicken profiles”, please also make sure that the GPU has sufficient cooling support to achieve significant performance optimization more in line with expectations. The good news is that most RX 6000 series non-public graphics cards are said to meet the required cooling conditions.

Finally, if all goes well, the Radeon Monster Profile will be officially announced as part of the Hydra toolkit for tuning AMD Ryzen CPUs at the launch event this fall.

However, since RMP is still in development, the early performance numbers may not be the same as the final product. The tool only supports RNDA 2 GPUs for the first time, and RDNA 3 GPUs will have to wait a bit longer.
